Supporting Open Source

Eshin Direct is brought to you buy the virtue of the Open Source philosophy. Free software is software that enjoys the freedom to be developed openly and organically according to the needs of its users. Since the source code remains transparent, stability is given to the most popular uses while at the same time, unique uses can still be applied. Perhaps one of the greatest living examples of democracy and choice in action.

To find out more about this quiet online revolution, visit the Free Software Foundation and the Open Source Initiative.

WordPress

WordPress is one of the best personal publishing tools available (aka blog tools). It’s simple to use, customizable and more importantly, search engine friendly (to feed that ego!). You can learn more about WordPress from the WordPress Project site or if you’re interested in setting up a WordPress blog, hassle-free, visit ForumDNA.

Coppermine

Coppermine remains one of the leading photo gallery scripts out there. Simple to use and packed with features like voting, commenting and even e-cards, I’ve been using it for years. Visit the Eshin Direct Image Gallery for an example, the Coppermine Project site for more info, or if you want Coppermine hosted, visit ForumDNA.

VideoDB

VideoDB is a nice little script that displays your collection of films online. What’s cool about it is that it enables you to pull info directly from the IMdB such as cast lists, genres and ratings. So you spend less time cataloging and more time reviewing. Visit the VideoDB Project site for more details or see it in action in my Movie Collection.

Directory

Directory was a cool script that allowed me to create a Yahoo! type of directory for my links. It is no longer supported by its developers and I’m considering moving over to de.li.cio.us for my own bookmark management.

phpMyFAQ

phpMyFAQ is used to answer all those questions about Eshin that you might have. A convenient script to handle open questions and general information that I want you to have about me. Check out the phpMyFAQ Project site or see it in action with the Eshin Direct FAQ.
