What seems like a good idea to move towards a digital future, I do think that this gives one company too much power over something like the written word, which should essentially be freely available. Of course, I'm not overly concerned since most of the Big G's offerings have a great initial hook but really don't deliver once you get down to actually using them.

This is a nice idea – NowDoThis. A blank white page with the one thing that you need to be doing now with simple (limited) functionality. Can possibly work well when coupled with something like the GTD system where you can import the action points for the day and let it keep you on track.

Seems so simple but if I recall my “get organized” classes back in my teens, it seemed like one of those useful tricks they kept telling you about but never actually used. Besides, multitasking seems a little harder for guys than it does seem for gals (it’s true, this is the premise of books like Why Men Don’t Listen and Women Can’t Read Maps: How We’re Different and What to Do About It.

But will it work in the practicality of a work environment? The testing shall begin.

Uploaded two links for any airsoft enthusiasts – Isayeret and Combat Games.

Isayeret is an Israeli Special Forces Database which is run by some ex-Israeli army personnel. Rumour has it that the government had tried to shut it down because of its accuracy. It’s a great source for information on the weapons, structure and equipment that the Israeli special forces uses. And as everyone knows, the Israeli special forces are some of the best trained in the world. Thanks to Eyal for that one.

Combat Games is the website of the one airsoft operator that I know of in Hong Kong. I’m sure there are more but I’ve only ever been to this one. The site (both virtual and real) is apparently run by ex-US service personnel. So be careful for friendly fire.

This week has been a little busy and not much time has been spent surfing online, so the new links added are meagre. However, there are four sites worth a look but won’t be making the “the Pick List” or “WAL” list in any section yet.

The first is a Sammi Cheng Sau Man community website that appears to have all the latest information about Sammi on their. Of course, this is nothing special, except that it happens to have it in English which is a great help for me while I stalk her…sorry, woe her with my romantic advances. This was found through another site with has relatively little information on it, called Cross My Heart, but I think the site design is nice and makes use of the horizontal scroll, which I’m surprisingly enough a fan of.

The second link of note is the Adopt-A-Blog project. This was Sinosplice’s response to the PRC banning a whole bunch of free blogging services being accessed in China. The idea behind the programme is that unbanned blogs “host” banned blogs. In return, they get a nifty little banner to show they support free speech and that whole shebang. More details can be found on their website.

The third link is more humourous than serious. It offers an online test through which to test if you are suffering from any of the following disorders – Paranoid, Schizoid, Schizotypal, Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic, Narcissistic, Avoidant, Dependent, and Obsessive. You’ll be surprised to know that I scored on most tests Very High, High and Moderate. Anyway, just a bit of fun.

The last link is to a design design site that my cousin in the Netherlands sent to me. He recommended it to me because he liked the interface. All I can say having looked at the site, is that the interface absolutely rocks! It’s smooth, innovative and damned pleasure to use. Take a look at Teknoel if you’re interested in seeing a well-designed website.

For more new links, visit the New Site list in the Link Repository.

With the new redesign and organisation of information on my site, I’ve introduced the category Look! to list all the sites that I think are worth having a look at. Within the Link Repository, they’ll be marked with a “Pick” logo that’s bound to catch your attention (right…).

So for this week, the Picks are Blog Pulse, The 1001 Journals Project, TheBroken.org, Photo.net, and HKFlix.com.

Blog Pulse is a website that deals in trying to find out what people are talking about on their blogs around the world. I think that’s quite nifty and it certainly makes my job of finding out the latest trends somewhat easier. I can now stay on top of all those trends like Paris Hilton’s escapades and the like much quicker.

In a similar vein, the 1001 Journals Project caught my eye since it does something interesting that I’d like to implement in my research techniques. Basically, it claims to be a social experiment to arm 1001 people with a journal and sees what comes out of it. It’s a smaller form of blogging directory but it has an interesting concept behind it.

Continuing on, TheBroken.org promises to keep me upto date with all the latest hacking techniques that are available. While I don’t endorse hacking or any form illegal online activity (hey, it’s all relative depending on where you are), it’s useful to be forewarned. Hopefully, some smarter pundits will be able to come up with fixes making their information obsolete.

On a more personal note, Photo.net was invaluable to me in helping me to pick a new SLR camera with great product reviews, photography techniques and advice. It still is very helpful to me while I get a toehold into this new hobby. The ability to see other people’s photos, and the techniques and critique, is also a very nice idea.

Similarly, I hope soon to be listed in Photoblogs.org. This is a site that is dedicated to listing blogs that have a photographic theme to them. I’m having fun just looking at what people like to take pictures of and see if that influences me in any way.

Lastly, if you’ve ever wanted to find out more about any Hong Kong or Asian films, then a good start would be to search HKFlix.com. It is quite comprehensive and was invaluable to me in setting up the Asian listings I have in my Personal Movie Collection. Sometimes IMdB doesn’t have quite enough information to help you know more about an Asian film.

Five new sites this week (actually culled from my meager list that I compiled over the last few weeks). The first, Asia’s Finest, is a Asian celebrity site for those of you interested in finding pictures and news on Asian celebrities. The second, Starship Dimensions, is a site that let’s you actually see the comparative dimensions of the starship seen in various films and TV shows. The third, Zipperfish, is a site that I came across on Shaky’s site, which has some interesting features on it. It’s a pay site but there is some cool free stuff up there. Like the Paedophile Test. The fourth, Honest Reporting, is a site that I came across on Eyal’s site focusing on the news reporting in the Middle East. The last site, Flame Warrriors, is for those of you who have spent any time on a forum or online and can recognize the personality traits they humourize here.

Two interesting websites that show some people really do love their lunches. One is by a former global co-ordinator at my company and he basically runs his own blog where he takes pictures of his lunch each day – take a look at Allen Bukoff’s Lunch. The other website is a website to lunches that people have taken of their food on board aircrafts. It’s a strange site but might be of interest to those who are curious about the aviation industry. Check out what people are eating at AirlineMeals.net.
