Digital Photo Workflow Evaluation

Now that I have my new Nikon D90 in hand, the volume of my photos taken has increased and I am giving some serious thought to my digital photo workflow. Previously, I didn’t really have an efficient workflow when I was working from film to online, so it is was all rather haphazard1. One week into the using my first DSLR, I’ve shot over 800 photos2 so a simple process would be needed for organization and getting my photos in a state that I’m happy to show them off, retrieve them and well, do things with them.

I found three articles online that have helped me with my initial thinking although in practice it remains to be seen how well it works.

  1. I spent so much time just scanning in photos that I eventually decided to have them scanned onto CD which just added to my cost that made it additionally prohibitive. []

Some Thing to Whet Your Appetitite

I am eagerly awaiting to post up pictures from my new D90 which will have to wait until this weekend. However, in the interim and as part of my Daily Lunch Special project, I managed to get a pretty decent food shot with my Nokia N95.

Quite proud of that one myself, I am.

I can think of worst complexes to have.

Daily Lunch Special

Inspired by one of my former bosses, Allen Bukoff1 (albeit in the godsphere), I am initiating my own social experiment into a daily lunch time photographic exercise. Each day, depending on time, circumstance and me actually remembering, the world at large will have the privilege of seeing what I have for lunch.

See the useless excitement taking place over at the Daily Lunch Special album.

It will be mostly useless but perhaps occasionally interesting. Who knows? Who cares?

Oh the suspense…

Succumbing to the Nikon D90

Following rumours that the Nikon D90 Digital SLR was finally in stores in Singapore, I decided I needed to see it for myself at Cathay Photo Store at Marina Square. I was only supposed to look and think about it but succumbed when I actually held it in my hand. Well, I haven’t had any significant purchases for a while and I suppose I needed to treat myself to something for landing a new job.

Online indications seemed to price the D90 at $1888 while I hear the suggested retail price is $1999. Cathay Photo had it at $1750 including GST. I briefly looked at the D60 as it was significantly cheaper at about $888 (I think) but comparing the two side by side, holding each one, it was definitely the D90.

Now I just have to wait 8 hours for the battery to fully charge. Another 24 hours before I can come home and play with my new toy. Oh, it’s just like Christmas.
