What’s your experience with Lightroom, worth getting?

It actually works a treat for sorting out your photos. The rating system works really fast and efficiently. It has some controls to make quick adjustments to your photos – more than sufficient for the average amateur like me. I have Photoshop on standby to deal with any more complicated things.

Beauty of this over Photoshop is that it is non-destructive which I think means that you don’t actually affect the original files in any adverse way.

It took me some time to import my photos but this was partly because I’m working off an external hard drive and I was converting Nikon’s D90 RAW to DNG (Adobe’s digital negative format for apparent longevity purposes). I think another advantage is that you can import your photos to Lightroom, store the originals in an external hard drive, disconnect and work from the snapshots that Lightroom uses. You can reconnect later, move around the originals, etc at a later point. Great for mobility issues.

Still on trial run now but I think I’ll be getting the full version.
