October 8, 2008 Build up of the Humours
It is a bloody downer getting sick in your first week on a new job. Much that I would rather have gotten ill on my dying days at my last job. It was somewhat amusing that my new colleagues rather forcefully insisted that I go home yesterday1 so this morning when I woke with a temperature and sore throat, I would do them the courtesy of resting. Hopefully, this will give me a chance to recover as the body needs rest to heal itself.
I suspect that either I have a very virulent strain of the virus running through me or that the build up of stress over the last week was finally released into my system. I am a firm believer that if you’ve been working yourself ragged for a period of time through stress, your body holds the bad humours2 in check until you begin to relax, whereupon it releases all those toxins in your body at once.
Right now, I’m looking forward to a cocktail of antibiotics3, a healthy portion of congee with liver and lean meat, and a blend of liquefied fruits in one easy to drink mug. So excuse me while I’m off to cough up my lungs.
- Although one suspects more out of personal concern for their health. [↩]
- Okay, I like the term humours but perhaps it isn’t the correct terminology for humourism. [↩]
- Not a great believer in these since it actually reduces your immunity to otherwise innocuous things. Although in a case where I’m sick on my first week on the job and an Expo event this weekend, perhaps I should just go for the drugs. [↩]

Yeah, but you best have contingency plans drawn up.
