You would think that riding on motorbike would be more dangerous actually riding it. Dodging cars that fail to indicate, pedestrians unaware of bikes, mammoth buses that couldn’t care less since you are half of 10% of their size. However, I think there is a statistic that says that most accidents happen at slower speeds or when stationary. I think I proved that today when some idiot van driver reversed into me on my bike while I was stationary.

Apart from being inconsiderately double parked across the bike lots, he decided he would reverse without really checking either his rear view mirror or over his shoulder. Not that he really needed to reverse since there was plenty of space in front of him. I don’t think he realized he backed into something until I banged on his window and shouted at him to move forward. At which point, instead of moving forward, he gets out and starts apologizing while I’m holding my bike up as its half trapped in his van. I mean really? Perhaps you would like to move forward before offering your apologies? I think I had to shout at him twice before he decided the right thing to do was to get back in the van and move forward.

Thankfully, there was no damage to my bike and I really couldn’t be arsed to see if there was any to his van. He admitted he was in the wrong and I did take down his details, although I did take the opportunity to remind him in no uncertain terms that he has a responsibility to look before he reverses. At least he apologized and offered up all his details willingly rather than being uppity about it which I suspect afflicts many drivers here in Singapore. Took the bite out of my bark a little and I had to drain the excess adrenaline somewhere.
