October 3, 2005 del.icio.us Eshin
Being way ahead of the pack with the latest technology, I finally discovered del.icio.us.
What is it you say?
Well, basically it’s an online bookmark service.
Unbasically, it lets you share your bookmarks with others (through the site, through RSS, through its API), and categorise your bookmarks according to tag classifications. If it’s a popular link, then it’ll come up with some helpful suggestions on what other people used to classify that particular link. It also tells you how many other people subscribe to that link.
You can check mine out at Eshin’s del.icio.us.
And thanks to Eyal, I discovered del.icio.us Director, a nifty little gui tool that is based of AJAX. Still got to experiment with delDirector but at first glance it looks cool.

How easy is it to use? Does it take ages to add everything?

To add your bookmarks? It’s very easy to use…
A little java applet sits in your tool bar, you press it, and it adds the current site to your account. URL already filled in, and the tag, all you need to do is provide an extended description and tags (keywords).
Filling in the tags is easy. You can either click on your existing tags (and it quickly adds them) or you can type in new ones (with an auto suggest feature).
Sounds complicated but you’re surfing back on the site you came from in under two minutes if not a minute.
There is an importer that will do it for you… but you will sitll need to dd in tags.

Ah, so it can import from a list of Firefox/Opera bookmarks?
I’ll have to have another look at it…

Try this link for importing into del.icio.us. Didn’t think it worked as I had already gone through some of my bookmarks and added them and it looked like it timed out. But when I looked at my account, it had added all of them.
