There is nothing worse than coming into a bar, all hot and sweaty from the lovely humid weather we are currently experiencing in Hong Kong, and to be told that they don’t serve plain and simple ice water from the tap.

Such was the case at Illy in Lan Kwai Fong this evening. Upon entering, sweating bucket loads of sweat, I simply asked for a glass of ice tap water to cool myself down and to compose myself. The drone at Illy decided to take me on a gastronomical tour of the water selection that they had available. Upon asking aforementioned drone for some tap water, I was told that they don’t sell tap water. Of course, they bloody don’t. Tap water’s not for selling.

I can understand a bar not wanting to give away its water for free but then again it wasn’t as if I looked as if I was going to sit there sipping away at it like a miser for the whole evening. I simply needed it after coming in from a hot and sticky walk down to the bar. Consequence? Illy shan’t be on my list to go for a drink. Besides, a week earlier, a more helpful drone at Illy served me some tap water.
