With the American elections right around the corner, you’d think I’d be busy rooting for who I want to win the election, who, by the way is John Kerry. Well, to be honest, it doesn’t make a blind bit of difference since either way, because the geopolitical landscape in the world is not going to change all that drastically. Oh, did anyone notice how there seem to be all these elections in all these different countries at around now? Strange that… there must be a committee somewhere determining all this.

So what to do if you don’t care about the elections because you know that a) you can’t vote anyway and can only whinge like a non-American can or b) because of a) you realise your screwed either way? Well, I’d suggest listening to Green Day’s new album “American Idiot”. The title track from the album is all rather amusing and it’s refreshing to know that not everyone is on the road to oblivion in the States when you look at the lyrics. But seriously, check out the album if you’re tired of little wannabee punk rocker bands, pretty boy boy bands, and the Bouncy Beyonce-led hip hop domination of pop music. And while Eminem might have the market cornered for his own troubled white-trash childhood, Green Day pretty much takes the trouble and makes it a social point, making him look like the whiney little fly guy in The Offspring’s “Pretty Fly for a White Guy” video.

On a gentler note, the ever lovely Stefanie Sun Yanzi (or Suen) has released her newest album, imaginatively named Stefanie. Having yet listened to the whole CD, but the first couple of tracks happily remind us that you don’t need to be the front man of a punk-rock trio to have a powerful voice. She still has that girl next door type of look about her (and boy, is my girl next door a hot one), but she is beginning to look a little “too” thin, if that is possible. I think it’s all those crappy Taiwanese game shows they force the Taiwanese based celebrities to perform on. Blink twice if you’re being held against your will…
