So instead of playing around with a new high-tech toy this weekend (namely my PowerBook G4), I got to play with my new low-tech toy, my new Brother fax machine, the model being inspiringly called FAX-727. I’m having so much fun with it, I’m itching for it to start rolling out the faxes. Of course, that won’t happen because no-one has my fax number yet.

Hopefully, my G4 comes today. Then I won’t feel so sad emotionally and socially about playing with my fax.

Oh, and PCCW tried the old “no change trick again”. Was the guy really expecting a $50 tip for doing his job? Truth be told, I was preparing to give him something for his efforts, but the fact that he didn’t come prepared just pissed me off. We stood there for a full three minutes exchanging “This is all I have” with “Sorry no change” before he called his colleague sitting in his van/truck to bring the change they had.

Sure HK$50 bucks might not seem a lot to you. But think about it. Being conservative, let’s say they do their job (yeah, they get paid to deliver, people) and make 3 such deliveries in an hour and get HK$150 for their troubles. An eight hour stint would yield a possible HK$1200. Given a five day working week and four week month, a delivery dude, pulling this scam, would make $24k in a month, tax-free. This just goes against my sensibilities.

Thankfully, I’ll have to pick up my PowerBook so can avoid these complications.
