August 21, 2004 Police Crackdowns on Protestors
One of the reasons why I refuse to take a bludgeon to China’s and other countries’ poor record of freedom of speech and civil rights, is because I know that our “enlightened” democractic philosophies, civilization and culture isn’t as noble as it is seems in practice. Here is a somewhat revealing article of some of the civil right violations that happened against US protestors in some high profile protest gone wrong.
Law and order, sure. Political bias in the execution of law and order? Sure, there shouldn’t be but in practice that’s they way it works. Police brutality? Wrong, anywhere. Perhaps even more so in democratic and free state than it is in paranoid, power monopolizing state.
Perhaps if pundits like Conrad over Gweilo Diaries spent more time criticising and perhaps coming up with solutions to their own country’s problem, America would be the ideal that it once was. But I guess it’s easier to throw shit on other people’s countries. I know, ’cause I’m doing it right now.

I don’t mind when bloggers like Conrad only point out the human and civil rights abuses of countries they don’t like, but I absolutely can’t stand when they defend the ones committed in the countries they like. And this is typical of what the right does. They will condemn Chavez in Venezuela for silencing the media for example, but then defend the very same action when Allawi does it in Iraq. Their notion of what is right and wrong stems soley from their partisan ideology.

The US could care less if Tony Blair supports them or not. You think they need the Brits for help? Not likely. They’ve already bailed you guys out twice last century. The US is used to shouldering the load on their own and will continue to do so…

Evidently posting a comment to the right entry is a little beyond some of my reader’s abilities…
Yeah, Korea, Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, Somalia and the latest escapade into Iraq are all examples of US successes after you bailed us out.
Grenada must have been a tough one though.
But you missed the point of the post. I don’t care that some Americans want to thank Tony Blair. I think it’s laughable. Hence the post. What’s also laughable is that most Americans think that terrorism and the strategy of fear used by those organisations is a new thing. That was the other point.
