I hate being late to a party, especially so when all the fun’s already been had. It seems that I’m late for the party in Hong Kong too. The reason for my irritation is that Hong Kong doesn’t seem to be the wild party capital it might have once been. And when I say wild party capital, I do mean wild.

I had this revelation this week when I had the joy of showing friends around Hong Kong on a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night.

Old-timer expats bore me to death with stories of the fabulous pre-97 days when a rip-roaring time was available to be had by all. One of my former managers gave me a nugget of advice when I first arrived. Stay at home for one day a week ’cause it’s possible to go and do something in Hong Kong every night.

It wasn’t that he was wrong exactly but he wasn’t precisely right either.

He was right in that there is something to do in Hong Kong all the time.
