Can We Have Them Back…Please?
The capture of eight British servicemen by Iran obviously doesn’t sit well with me and concerns for their safety are genuine given the friction between the two nations in the past. Displaying their images on TV for the world to see is perhaps, but unlikely, a contravention of the Geneva convention. But then again, we aren’t at war with Iran, are we?
So before we start waving the flag, before we start thinking we are actually an empire still, let’s just think what would happen if eight Iranians, armed to the teeth, happened to stray into British waters. I’d imagine we’d be less than friendly about it.
If we want our servicemen back, those dumbass politicians that have already gotten us into one illegal war in the region, better ask nicely for them back. I’m hoping those politicians realize this and that Tony Blair doesn’t have illusions of grandeur a la Bush style. If they don’t, and he does, then we might just have to invade Iran.
