After 1 Week
I’ve managed to take some shots with my new Nikon camera this week. Actually, I’ve worked my way through four rolls of film already and taking photos with the camera is great fun. I love the feel of it and I’m happy I went for the more sturdy feeling Nikon.
The first roll of film was spent on the day I got my camera. I had no real idea what I was doing in these first few shots. I did manage to get some good shots in when it was daylight. I also learned not to use a daylight film indoors at night, at least not without the flash.
My first real opportunity to take some shots was on Friday when I walked around Victoria Park taking some pictures. While I discovered that Victoria Park is probably my least favourite park in HK, I did manage to find plenty of things to shoot. At the moment with me it’s a hit and miss affair. I’m not getting the shots that I want on the film. Some shots aren’t coming out quite as I hoped and other shots are coming out surprisingly well.
The same day I got the opportunity to test my camera out in a “social setting” as we went to Carnegies. I put a 400 film in there and of course, most of the AF would do the work. I was a little disappointed with the results of AF. It isn’t completely idiot-proof and requires some thinking to get the shot in focus especially under poor lighting circumstances like Carnegies.
I haven’t yet managed to develop my fourth roll of film but a lot of them were night shots without the flash in well lit areas. I’m interested to see how they will come out and I have a sneaking suspicion that most of them will have the yellowy tinge that results from using a daylight film in a night setting.
I’m also learning that the SLR shutter release is more sensitive than a regular POS system so a few of my photos have turned up blurred.
All in all, I’m happy with my camera. I’m eager to experiment with it some more and to get the shots that I want (i.e. what I envisage is actually what I get). Will post some pictures up when I get them converted to digital format.
