Da Vinci Code

Read the Da Vinci Code this weekend. All I can say is wow. It’s a work of fiction, so please don’t all get your religious feather ruffled up. And maybe the storyline isn’t the greatest in the world as it’s more a medium to get some religious concepts out - sacred feminine, Catholic hypocrisies, etc. But the ideas in here are good and well researched. Strong supporters of Catholicism and established religious doctrine will be up in arms about the book, but most of what the writer is talking about draws from other sources, who in turn draw from other sources to support their claims. Whether or not you believe in what it is saying, it’s still thought provoking and I think a positive influence. Go read it!

I will post a more comprehensive review up when I sort out how to post up Book reviews in my Reviews section.

Camile Velasco - She WILL make it!

Okay, I seem to be getting a lot of hits on searches for Camile Velasco. Being in HK, I get the news late on where she is in the competition but from what I gather, she’s doing great and the judges all seem to like her. It’s her attitude, people, it’s really down to earth and backed up by beauty and some real talent. So while my blog is helping to shine the spotlight on her, I’d just like to remind American visitors to this site to vote for the lovely Camile. She definitely should be the next American Idol!!!!

Go Camile, I’m rooting for ya!

Koreans Lovers!

Gosh, I’ve got a real Korean fetish going on here. Anyway, here are two Korean stars which I think are the hottest things to walk the earth. Yep, hot isn’t very descriptive but it’s just that they are and I can’t think of any other words to describe them - they are just hot in terms of sexy and wow. I can’t say much like, hot but in a sweet sort of way, or hot as in a “girl next door” kinda look. Just hot. Sue me for my creative use of language if you must. The first hot Korean is Linda Park, one of the stars of Enterprise, the latest Star Trek offering.

Linda Park

The second Korean is Kim EZ, one of the longer running members of Baby VOX, a Korean girl band.

Enjoy!

Good Morning Hong Kong

Right, woken up to the same sound of heavy drilling going on. They are still at it. Yesterday, I unsuccessfully had a row with my building’s management (from superintendent to scammy housing manager bloke). The poor superintendent got most of the brunt of my wrath although I’m sure that he didn’t really understand much of what I was ranting at him over the sound of pneumatic drills chipping away at the buildings infrastructure. Only when I said the magic words of compensation and withholding rent did he want to defer to the idiots upstairs.

So I finally got the junior management mensch that handles my building. Of course, she had the luxury of not dealing with irate tenants because she spent the day at a training course. How convenient. “Please, Mr. Van. You must understand our…” No I don’t have to. I pay a high enough rent as it for me to be non-understanding. Dale Carnegie 101 - never tell the customer about your problems. They aren’t interested in you. Make that Jeffrey Fox 101. How are you going to fix my problem? I’ve got to be patient apparently.

More compensation and withholding of rent threats later.

She wants me to talk to her senior (jack-ass if you ask me). He also conveniently indisposed until he calls me back when the drilling has stopped. I reckon Little Miss Ingenius suggested to him that it might not be a good idea to speak to me right now since A) I was irate (me, no…never) and B) she could barely hear me over the heavy drilling (how ironic). So jack-ass senior calls me back after the drilling has stopped.

Again, half an hour on the phone of him telling me the situation and how I need to understand it. “Please Mr. van”. He also seemed to think I didn’t quite understand his earlier spiel about the situation because he insisted on explaining it to me twice. Admittedly, he did so the second time in earnest because I threatened to vacate the premises after my tenure. Don’t think he liked that when a lot of the flats in my building are empty. Still will be seeking compensation or exploring legal possibilities.

They say they were almost halfway through. But I doubt it. They are drilling on my side again which they were doing the whole of yesterday. If they were halfway through they would be on the otherside of the building. Lying bastards.

Food Poisoning

I got food poisoning yesterday night. I ate with Hilary in Zentro bar in IFC2 for lunch and ended up feeling like crap for the afternoon. It got worse when I fell asleep watching TV and woke up at 11pm burning up. I thought I had fever but it most definitely was the food. So just went to sleep and had a restless night. Followed by…

Woken up by heavy drilling. Apparently the bright sparks in my building have decided to drill off the concrete on my building’s roof and recement it. This they did solidly from 9-6pm with an hour’s grace over lunch time. It wasn’t even an hour. Anyway, spent the day recovering and off to bed early since they will start again at 9. I need my sleep ’cause tomorrow I’ve got an interview with a headhunting agency.

Oh yeah. Not going down to Singapore anymore. They picked someone else for the job. Guess I’m too overqualified to be entry-level Account Executive and too underqualified to be an Account Manager. Go figure.
