A Night at Bling’s
It seems that I spend most of my time at Bling or Ball or both, especially for bigger events. Anyway, Friday 13th was their official opening night. Although technically it wasn’t since they still don’t have their license, so there will be another official opening night going on sometime soon.
I must say that the place is small and intimate, and their opening was perhaps the most crowded I have ever seen the place. The owners hired this guy Marcus to run the place and he seems more in tune with getting the right people down there - the place was jamming with people and before 12 it was almost impossible to move. I had got there early to get the cool corner table which was cool and it helped to serve as a sort of anchor point for the various different people that were there on my account.
From my side it was a surprising mix of people. There was Laurence and Chris who were OC’s (old boys) from my old senior school. There was Glenn and his wife, Theresa. He still made it despite having to fly to Bali for work (so he says). Sharon and Kit brought a whole army of some of the hottest women I’ve seen in HK, and they were a little wild spending most of their time on the dance floor. The elusive Ray could also be seen there and he surprisingly enough stayed quite long in one place (he normally bar hops after 20 mins in one place). The Loopers made a very poor showing with only James, Amy and Hilary turning up (I’m not being pissy, they all said they would and then backed out).
Anyway, the crowd thinned very quickly when the free drinks came to an end at 12. Most of the crowd seemed to be going to Jewel afterwards. I did have an interesting discussion with two ladies that night. One seemed very keen to let me know that she was in love BUT we could still be really good friends (!). I think she said that because she knew I thought she was hot (someone had kindly told her that). She also wants me to cook dinner for her and Sharon, so that’s on the cards in the next couple of weeks.
The other discussion got me punched a couple of times by the lady in question. She told me she was off to Jewel and asked whether I was going. I asked her what happens if I don’t come along, to which she responded by smacking me a couple of times. Mumbled something about knowing karate. Didn’t go to Jewel in the end but she’ll remember that for next time…she remembered the last time I didn’t go to Dragon-i to see her, surprisingly enough.
The evening sort of ended with a coincidence. There’s this girl that I chatted up in Liquid one night, who after giving me her email, told me via email she’s attached but you’re a sweet guy but not interested. Anyway, I bumped into her again at Dragon-i late last year and she forgot who I was then, but then remembered and we ended up doing some shots. So it was this time around, in Bling, that she again forgot who I was and then we did end up doing shots with each other. Turns out she knew the new manager, Marcus, for years. This time I was still rejected but she did say I seemed much more confident, but with the lovely obligatory “You seem like a nice guy, but I’m not just looking right now.”. Whatever. I ended up telling her I’m not going to bother chasing her and I’m just sending her an email so that she remember who I am the next time she bumps into me. Seriously, who needs that? Just a little full of herself, that one.
Well, towards the end (at about 2!!!), Hilary and Freda had buggered off without saying goodbye. I was left with James, Amy, Julian (who got me to chat up some girls for him and didn’t follow through!), Hayley and another of their colleagues (incidentally, for some of the hottest women go to Salon Esprit). Someone managed to get a glass of red wine down me so I was feeling as though someone was takig a drill hammer to my head as a result.
All in all a good night though. Hardly any photos ’cause I completely forgot I had my camera. But did get some, although this was to the end of the evening, when most people had already left. Check them out in my Images section. Dammit, I just realize I wore the same shirt to Bling for two occasions.
