I’ve had it. This damn Singapore thing isn’t going to work out.

I’ve been going back and forth with the office down there to sort something out. But it just ain’t happening.

Apparently, I was too overqualified for an Account Executive which I was told was best for me. Fair enough.

Now I’m being considered along with other candidates for an Account Manager role. I’m pissed off because I was told I would be able to qualify for that role. But apparently my history with the company, my experience of strategic brand management, and my knowledge of APAC consumer insights isn’t enough to convince them hire me yet. They still need to consider me along with other candidates. Loyalty, these days is poorly rewarded, it would seem and so is investing in people as long term resources.

Staff in the HK office tell me it would be and was a shame to get rid of me. The knowledge and the talent I have. It’s a shame it doesn’t equate into the dollar amount otherwise I still might be working for them.

My friend in Japan has the opposite problem though. It would seem loyalty is still being rewarded albeit in a bad way for him. He’s waiting for some people to actually change jobs so that he has a shot at a job.

Anyway, I’m pissed enough to write this at 5 in the am. No more loyalty and waiting for Singapore to come through on this. Other ad agencies are welcome to my knowledge and “apparent talent”. If Singapore comes through in the right space of time AND with the right offer, they can have me. Otherwise, their loss. And if they come back to me with the “You’re overqualified for the Account Manager role”, I’m going to kill someone.
