Comrade Colours

An interesting article on the role that colour plays in Chinese culture. Although, after reading the article, I’m still clueless as to the answer to the question it poses - “Why does Comrade wear a green hat?”. I know the answer probably lies in practicality and prudence - hey, it’s harder to shoot someone when they’re all dressed in green - but the article tantalizes me with the prospect of finding out the deep, hidden Chinese cultural meaning for green. So disappointed now.

Vietnam II

Yahoo! News - Pentagon Sending More Marines to Iraq

This is exactly what the American’s need to do. Send more troops over there. Of course, they aren’t an occupying force. But this will help put the Iraqi’s more at ease at being a colony of the States.

When will that Nazi-offspring Bush and Rumsfeld realize that sending more troops is irrelevant. It’s not a conventional war where you get to send all your reserves to fight an oncoming enemy. It’s not like Saving Ryan’s Privates and Pearl Necklace…sorry Harbour, where you get your troops and their troops to line up and shoot each other. Terrorism is a symptom of something else. Deal with the root of the problem. Rarely is it solved by throwing more troops at the problem.

You would have thought that Blair would’ve offered some advice being Bush’s bitch-monkey from a country that has experienced and dealt with terrorism before. Oh yes, that’s right, Bitch-Monkey Blair and his Labour lackeys weren’t in power at the time the IRA was playing up in the UK.

Well, I guess the Americans are making the same mistake twice…it’ll be Vietnam all over again. Maybe they’ll lose the heart for the fight again but this time a little sooner than they hung around there. They probably need a new war every now and then so they have source material for their next generation of war movies. Of course, they’ll say they did this all by themselves, ignoring the sacrifice of British soldiers in this conflict and their role in killing them.

Heroes Fallen

Another morning, another day…still waiting to hear from some people in Singapore on the job possibility.

I was just thinking in the cab this morning, and it was in no way indicative of anything that’s happened recently or to anyone specifically that I can remember, about how it feels to discover the people you hold up as your ideals are fallible. It’s a sort of disappointment to learn that you know they can be wrong and imperfect like the rest of us. Maybe I’m being too naive but it just sometimes comes as a stark realization sometimes.

The Strangeness of Blogs

Had a spare moment to read some of the other blogs Eyal’s listed on his blog. Well, following link after link after link, it seems there’s a bit of storm that’s been brewing in the HK blogger community. One poor girl seems to be the recipient of this malevolent attention as a result of her comments. Well, I find it strange that in the big world wide web that people have nothing better to do, especially when it comes to someone’s own site and their own thoughts.

I guess I shouldn’t. I’ve seen the flame wars on the various gaming forums that I’m on. Virtual communities take on lives of their own it seems, with people forming groups and affiliations that in some cases get down right hostile. But a blog is a personal statement in the world. It offers your 2 cents and if anyone’s interested, they can read your rantings. If they’re not, then you really don’t have a business in being there or telling people what they should think.

Of course, when you make a statement out in the world, you’ve got to have the smarts to know that you’ll be open for criticism for what you believe. If you can’t handle that, then why post your thoughts up in the first place?

I make it quite clear that I’ll have my say and if you don’t like it, tough. Besides, reading some of the other blogs out there, my eloquence isn’t likely to hold an audience for long nor are the inane ramblings of my life.

Anyway, Eyal decided to go for the HK blog meet up and wondered if I wanted to come along. I wasn’t feeling sociable nor did I have the time as I’m working on the Harbour website and also sorting out my Singapore job. It’s a strange concept these virtual networks that spill out into the real world, but bound to happen sooner or later.

My friend Amy has got her own blog hosted at my Loop website. She’s just started it and already she’s got two posts. I thinks she’s gonna have great fun with the new blog. Check it out if you have time.
