I’ve started to take taxis from down below my flat near the Man Mo temple. The problem with taking taxis from there is that it’s one of those roads that has no clear order of priority over who was there first while filtering new “arrivals” into the same general area; the result is that it can turn into one massive free-for-all.

This morning, I was sure there were three people waiting for a taxi. A young guy and a young family. And as luck would have it, there three taxis in a row that were taking fares. I stuck my hand out to hail the last two taxis trying to time it so that the last taxi in succession would be mine, not wanting to deprive the young family of their taxi.

Well, it turned out they weren’t waiting for a taxi and just waving their arms around looking like they were waiting for a taxi (grrrrrrr). But this left me with two taxis who wanted me fare. I already was moving towards the last taxi, and not wanting to break from the flow, I got in. But of course, this left taxi No.2 in a bit out of sorts and he decided not to move his taxi. Well, Taxi No. 3 decided to start shouting something at him Cantonese and Taxi No. 2 moved…but he decided to drive like a bitch in front of us, going slow, blocking off the road when Taxi No. 3 decided to overtake.

I suspect Taxi No. 2 was right to be pissed at me or Taxi No. 3. But it was a mistake that came from a good intention (i.e. let young family take the taxi). So my karma’s clear.
