Today the weather noticeably got colder. Yes, English people like to complain about the weather as their only topic of discussion but it signals the start of the downward trend in temperature and wind chill factors that will culminate into a biting cold that would surprise even Erik the Viking. It also means I have more trouble getting out of bed in the morning. I do this funny routine – wake up, snooze, wake up, snooze, wake up, snooze, wake up, switch shower on, snooze, wake up, panic. It would be hilarious if I didn’t have to get to work at a reasonable time. The plus side of the weather change is that you’ll see more boots on the ladies this time of year. I’m talking about the full FMB’s not those little ankle and mid-calf affairs, they just irritate.

Anyway, enough about the weather and boots. Two bits of music that I’m listening to at the moment. The first is a song which they are currently using for Star Movies promo. It’s called Starry-Eyed Surprise by Paul Oakenfield (no prizes for guessing why they used it!). It’s got a good beat to it and the melody ain’t half bad. The second song is a Chinese song that until now I haven’t understood. It’s a song that’s used for the theme song to a film called “Turn Left, Turn Right”. The Cantonese version is sung by Gigi Leung (who incidently stars in it), while the Mandarin version is by Sun Yanzi which I was unaware of. Anyway, I finally got a translation of the song that was done by a lovely girl called Carman. She translated it for me when I told her I liked Sun Yanzi. Big thank you! It’s quite a sad song, but offers a little bit of hope to it. I thought it was without knowing the lyrics but its good to know it for certain.

Finally, most of you know the story of the tortoise and hare. Briefly, for those who don’t…the tortoise and the hare have a race. The hare dashes off ahead while the tortoise ponders along after him. The hare is obviously the faster one so he decides to take a rest since the tortoise is so slow. Anyway, hare falls asleep and the tortoise, through actually performing slow but consistently, wins the race. The hare wakes up, but has realised too late, that the race is lost. The point of the story is that while I was standing in the lift, a revelation came to me (yes, lifts and the boys room are great inspiration rooms), I’m more of a hare than a tortoise. Well, I was happy to know that even if you weren’t.
